Josh & Renee MacLucas
VIP Private Chef’s Director and Executive Chef is Josh MacLucas. Josh grew up in Port Stephens and after completing his apprenticeship, furthered his training working alongside some of the best local and award winning international chefs. As his love of food and flavours grew, Josh spent time immersing himself in different cultures, mastering techniques and recipes from around the world and exploring the best local producers. From humble beginnings as a sushi chef, Josh has over twenty five years experience with running successful commercial kitchens.
Josh and Renée, who spent years honing her cocktail craft across some of Sydney’s premier establishments, met in 2013. It was a courtship that blossomed over a love of food, culture and frequent dining out. Fast forward seven wonderful years and two babies later, dining out presented a raft of new challenges including one baby that cried Every. Single. Time a dinner plate was served! The inspiration for VIP Private Chef was born…
With a vision of providing sophisticated culinary experiences to clients across Sydney, the Central Coast, Hunter Valley, Newcastle and Blue Mountains regions, VIP Private Chef flourished – initially operating exclusively by referral and word of mouth. From serving executives and professional athletes to couples and families alike, Josh and Renée have grown VIP Private Chef into one of New South Wales most popular personal chef and catering services.
The VIP Private Chef kitchen is completed by a very special couple. Albert Barlow has worked alongside Josh for over 15 years as his right hand man. Gaining his culinary expertise from some of Newcastle’s busiest establishments. Albert’s warm and friendly nature, combined with his skill and passion for flavours, make him the natural and only choice for our Head Chef. By day, Albert takes fine dining to a new level at a Corporate Retreat and by night he is a meticulous work horse, working seamlessly and interchangeably with Josh. Completely in sync, Albert and Josh are a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen.
Adding creativity and pizzaz to our kitchen is Shannel Barlow, our amazing Pastry Chef. Shannel’s culinary pedigree is impeccable. Having first trained at Le Cordon Bleu, Shannel pursued her love of all things sweet and mastered her pastry skills under the watchful eye of Australia’s Dessert King, Adriano Zumbo. From individual desserts to birthday cakes, our guests rave about Shannel’s exquisite presentation, dynamic textures and delicious flavours.
